Overview

FocusShield requires a free account. Your tasks, focus session history, and streaks are stored on our servers and synced across every device you sign into — this data is not local-only.

Data We Collect

Creating an account requires an email address and password (stored as a salted hash). Once signed in, the following is saved to our servers and synced across your devices:

For responsiveness, the app also keeps a local cache of this same data in your browser's storage, but your server-side account — not the local cache — is the source of truth, which is why your data reappears when you sign in on a new device.

Cookies & Local Storage

FocusShield does not set tracking cookies. Your sign-in session is handled with a bearer token kept in your browser's local storage, not a cookie. The "Got it" acknowledgement on our privacy notice banner is also remembered via local storage rather than a cookie.

We use a self-hosted, cookie-free analytics tool (Umami) to understand aggregate usage of the site. It does not use cookies and does not collect personally identifiable information.

Third-Party Services

Error/crash reporting (Sentry) may be used to help us fix bugs, and ambient sound files are streamed from a third-party CDN. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Data Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time using the delete-account/sign-out options in the app. Clearing your browser's local storage only removes the local cache on that device — it does not delete your account data from our servers.
